We’d like to take a moment and recognize our newest employees to Green River. Please take a moment to learn more about them, in their own words.
Please tell everyone your new title and a little bit about your professional background.
I am one of the new Progress and Completion coaches. I’m housed in Financial Aid. I am coming from the UW: School of Social Work where I’ve worked for the last 13 years. I have a Master’s degree in Social Work from the UW.
What drew you to apply to Green River?
I started out working at Tacoma Community College and wanted to return to the community college setting as opposed to the university. It’s also closer to my home.
On the car ride to work, what do you listen to?
Christian music, urban gospel
What was the very first job you ever had?
I worked in the Student Services office of Evergreen State College during the summer of my junior year as part of the Upward Bound program.
What about your new position are you most excited about?
Working with underrepresented groups and helping them achieve their goal of graduating and receiving their degree.
What is one thing you’d love to accomplish in your first year at Green River?
I’d love to become familiar with all aspects of Green River so that when I’m helping students I am giving them the best information possible.
What three accomplishments are you most proud of in your life?
Working in my community to impact change; using my skills and knowledge to help others navigate child welfare; seeing my children become productive adults
If your coworkers were to give you an office nickname, what would that be?
Not sure, I haven’t been there long enough.
For Green River’s annual talent show (this doesn’t actually exist), what hidden talent would you showcase for everyone?
:-) I would be helping behind the scenes.
