New Employee Spotlight – Shweta Parajuli

We’d like to take a moment and recognize our newest employees to Green River. Please take a moment to learn more about them, in their own words.

Shweta ParajuliPlease tell everyone your new title and a little bit about your professional background.
नमस्ते, मेरो नाम श्वेता पराजुली हो। Namaste, my name is Shweta Parajuli. I was born and raised in Lalitpur, Nepal. I am excited to join the International Admissions and Business Operations team as a Program Specialist at Green River College. I have worked in international programs for almost seven years in various capacities. At my previous job, I started my career as a Student Assistant, and worked my way up to becoming International Admissions Assistant. Over the years I have worked with colleagues and students from around the world and have gained new insights and perspectives on how we can improve operations of the department. Having grown up speaking four different languages, diversity is a necessity and way of life for me. Working with international students and higher education system fulfills my professional and personal goals of being involved in the global community.

What about your new position is most exciting for you?What drew you to apply to Green River?
Large international student population, diversity and student based innovative programs and resources drew me to apply to Green River.

On the car ride to work, what do you listen to?
I listen to NPR on my way to work. It keeps me well informed about current news and events from around the world.

What was the very first job you ever had?
My first job was at Aptech Computer Education, Nepal, as a telemarketing assistant.

What about your new position is most exciting for you?
I am very excited about becoming a Designated School Official (DSO). It will give me an opportunity to enhance my knowledge about international student visa rules and regulations and allow me to help international student pursue their goals.

What is one thing you’d love to accomplish in your first year at Green River?
During my first year, I would love to improve my global competency. By learning more about other cultures, understanding their expectations, and the way they do business, I will find new and innovative ways to reach out to the students.

What three accomplishments are you most proud of in your life?
My three accomplishments that I am most proud of are:

  • Being the first member from my family to travel overseas for higher education.
  • Having a successful career in the United States.
  • Contributing to my family’s wellbeing.

If your coworkers were to give you an office nickname, what would that be?
Ms. Congeniality; because I have had good relationship with all of my colleagues in the division.

For Green River’s annual talent show (this doesn’t actually exist), what hidden talent would you showcase for everyone?
Cooking

If G.R.E.E.N. where an acronym for something, what would each letter stand for?

  • G – Gratitude
  • R – Respect
  • E – Educate
  • E – Excel
  • N – Network
