Summer Hours

Although we have passed the unofficial start of summer, classes are still in session. For many of us, summer truly begins at the end of next week when classes end and lots of our wonderful students graduate!  When Participatory Governance was asked to look into summer hours at other colleges and make a recommendation for Green River College, they stepped up and gave a wonderful recommendation that Dr. Ely has asked the college to implement.

Effective Monday, July 6, 2015, the general hours of business operations will be from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and from 8:00 a.m. to noon on Friday. Green River College will be closed to the public after noon on Fridays.

What does this mean to the public and our students? It means that we will be here as we always are and in some cases, more than we are now.  We will continue to provide support and services through the summer but we will not guarantee that we will make appointments after noon on Fridays.

What does this mean to you as an employee? Honestly, it may not have a direct impact on you.  Your regular work schedule will only change if you and your supervisor agree to change your schedule.  If you and your supervisor agree to alter your schedule, then your hours may be different.  IT and HR will continue to offer the same level of support on Friday afternoon for our internal clients.

What if I do change my hours? There are certain rules that we have to follow.  Your supervisor will check with one of the Employee & Labor Relations Managers in the HR office to make sure that your proposed schedule meets with federal, state, and local laws as well as negotiated agreements.

When will it end? Summer hours will run through Friday, September 4, after which we will return to our regular hours of operations schedule on Tuesday September 8, after the Labor Day holiday.
