An emergency situation or crisis like any rude guest typically arrives unannounced and cares little for your readiness or the convenience of its timing. All we can do is prepare, and as part of Green River’s emergency planning we are escalating the capabilities of our building captains.
On Tuesday and Thursday this week, Valley Regional Fire Authority trained Green River building captains to be First Responders, which included lessons in adult and infant CPR, AED use, first aid and blood borne pathogens. CPT Ryan Freed was impressive in his ability to answer questions. His endless supply of anecdotes kept his instruction lively and reinforced the training.
The building captain position is strictly voluntary, and we should all be grateful to these individuals for demonstrating their courage and willingness to take on the responsibility. The group as a whole was impressively diverse and included directors, deans, program coordinators and advisors.
We are still looking for more building captains, so anyone interested should contact me via email.
