New Employee Spotlight – Nausica Zorzi

We’d like to take a moment and recognize our newest employees to Green River. Please take a moment to learn more about them, in their own words.

Zorzi, Nausica

Please tell everyone your new title and a little bit about your professional background.

I am excited to be a Business Management faculty at Green River Community College, and combine my professional experience and education in international business, project management and customer service with my passion for teaching and students’ success. My 15 years of successful work experience consist of twelve years as an entrepreneur in the import export, construction, and real estate industries, and three years as a risk management lead at Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing. During my years of entrepreneurship I wore many hats developing and managing all aspects of the business to include the marketing of products, negotiation of contracts, selection of vendors, creation and control of schedules and budgets, training of employees, monitoring of customers satisfaction, and implementation of process improvements. At Kindle Direct Publishing my responsibilities encompassed the management of day to day operations, de-escalation of customers’ complaints, on-boarding and coaching of our team’s customer service specialists, localization of customer facing language for new country expansions, implementation of software process improvements, and project management for new product and program launches.

What drew you to apply to Green River?

Green River gave me the opportunity to pursue my passion while studying and working. It is here that I started teaching Italian in the continuing education department in 2004 and later became an adjunct faculty for the Business Management department in 2013.

On the car ride to work, what do you listen to?

In the morning after listening to the news, especially the international and business news, I like to slowly wake up to Andrea Boccelli or other classical music. On the way home from work I love to listen to contemporary and sing along music, and I always keep a CD of the Beatles handy.

What was the very first job you ever had?

My first job goes back to elementary school when I used to spend the afternoons at my nonna. My younger sister and I would get old unwanted things from our aunts and display them for sale on a table by my grandma’s garage, and connected with our customers around meal times, when people walked by to go home. We landed a small profit that was always invested in our afternoon snacks involving gelato, candies or chips from the nearby bar.

What about your new position is most exciting for you?

I am excited to collaborate to the development of a competency base customer service certificate and apply my work experience to the classroom in an effort to ensure students’ success after college.

What is one thing you’d love to accomplish in your first year at Green River?

I would like to cooperate to the creation and launch of a simulation lab for our certificate students.

What three accomplishments are you most proud of in your life?

  1. In collaboration with vendors and customers all over the world, I am proud of having managed all phases of several large commercial projects, including a 40 level skyscraper.
  2. While earning my master in the evening and working full time in the construction industry, I started my first business importing high end men shoes from Italy. I quickly failed at it but applied the lessoned learned to another business endeavor that turned successful. I find much strength in having learned at a young age that failure simply represents a new beginning.
  3. I am unsure if becoming a parent is considered an accomplishment but being a mother to my two boys certainly makes me very proud; they are only 5 and less than 1 year old, and I may have a different opinion when they are teenagers!

If your coworkers were to give you an office nickname, what would that be?

My latest team called me paradox, because according to them, I am cool and patient on the outside but hot and persistent on the inside.

For Green River’s annual talent show (this doesn’t actually exist), what hidden talent would you showcase for everyone?

I would bring some of my favorite dishes I like to make such as tiramisu`, which literally means ‘lift me up’!

If G.R.E.E.N. were an acronym for something, what would each letter stand for?
