Dr. Eileen Ely Resigns as President of Green River College

(AUBURN, WA—June 16, 2016) After six years of service, Green River College President Dr. Eileen Ely announced Thursday, June 16, 2016, that she will step down as president, effective immediately. The Board of Trustees for Green River College accepted her resignation and is working with the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges (SBCTC) to identify and retain a suitable candidate for interim president, as the College prepares to launch a national search for a successor. The Board has appointed Shirley Bean, Vice President for Business Administration, and Marshall Sampson, Vice President of Human Resources and Legal Affairs, to share the duties of acting president at Green River, until the interim president is appointed.

The Board of Trustees extends their thanks to Dr. Ely for her efforts on behalf of Green River College. “We wish the best for her, as she prepares to move on to other endeavors,” said Pete Lewis, chair of the Green River College Board of Trustees. “We are confident our presidential search will attract the best and brightest candidates.”

The College will host open forum Community Town Hall meetings this summer and early fall to hear feedback from the college community about the presidential recruitment plan, as well as to provide an opportunity for faculty and staff to voice their requirements and preferred characteristics for a new president at Green River. A detailed timeline regarding the upcoming presidential search will become available as the process develops.

Operations at Green River College will continue as usual, with summer quarter beginning Monday, June 20, 2016.
