Public Records – Archiving Updates

Posted on behalf of Jessica Tichy, Public Records Manager

Summer quarter is typically when archiving is done, so all of you tasked with this responsibility should know that our friends at Washington State Archives have finally approved and published a State Records Retention Schedule.

The schedule is a great resource to be used in tandem with our own state board’s version. Washington State Archives approved the new State Government General Records Retention Schedule v.6.0 by the State Records Committee on June 29th, and is now available on the Washington State Archives website.

The site also contains a comprehensive list of the various records retention schedules; including the SBCTC version (that’s us).

Washington State Archives has also created a new “How to Use Records Retention Schedules” page for state agencies with new “Advice Sheets” and links to training materials.

Please feel free to send your questions to WA State Archives at

Happy archiving!
