Don Thomas

Please tell everyone your new title and a little bit about your professional background.

My new title is Health Occupations Educational Planner. I have worked in higher education as an academic advisor for approximately 7 years, with extensive experience on-boarding, retaining and preparing students who are seeking entry into competitive admissions programs.  I  graduate from  Kentwood H.S. and have a master’s degree in Counseling and Student Personnel from Minnesota State University.

What drew you to apply to Green River?

The opportunity to work with more non-traditional students and the beautiful campus.

On the car ride to work, what do you listen to?

Podcasts on finances and positive thinking.

What was the very first job you ever had?

The movie theater in Auburn.

What about your new position is most exciting for you?

Working with health care students again in an advising capacity.

What three accomplishments are you most proud of in your life?

  • Going to graduations in May and June for students
  • Received a master’s degree and started a Ph.D. program
  • Traveled to 30 of 50 US states

If G.R.E.E.N. were an acronym for something, what would each letter stand for?

G– Guidance

R– Resilience

E– Engagement

E– Empowerment

N– Nature
