New Employee Spotlight – Emily Kohring

We’d like to take a moment and recognize our newest employees to Green River. Please take a moment to learn more about them, in their own words.

Please tell everyone your new title and a little bit about your professional background.

Kohring, Emily

Emily Kohring

I am a Program Coordinator for the Assessment & Testing Center on campus. Before this role, I was a Housing Case Manager for a King County non-profit, where I worked to secure housing for families within the Highline and Tukwila School Districts. I am still deeply invested in homelessness advocacy, affordable housing, and barrier removal for those in our community.

What drew you to apply to Green River?

At this stage in my career, I want to gain higher education experience and learn how to work within a different environment than the one I had before. I live in Auburn, which is a great commute!

On the car ride to work, what do you listen to?

The ride is too short to really get into anything, so I prefer to chat with my husband about the day ahead.

What was the very first job you ever had?

I have a very entrepreneurial spirit – when I was eight, I created my own pet care business and distributed flyers in neighbors’ mailboxes to get jobs.

What about your new position is most exciting for you?

To be on a college campus again and know I am part of something bigger than myself.

What is one thing you’d love to accomplish in your first year at Green River?

I would love to complete as many trainings as possible to better my understanding of higher Ed and our student population.

What three accomplishments are you most proud of in your life?

  1. Having my son, who just turned one year old.
  2. Graduating university.
  3. Living life in partnership with my best friend.

If your coworkers were to give you an office nickname, what would that be? Why?

Only time will tell!

For Green River’s annual talent show (this doesn’t actually exist), what hidden talent would you showcase for everyone?

Standing front flip on a trampoline. The talent show should totally exist, by the way.

If G.R.E.E.N. were an acronym for something, what would each letter stand for?

Get Ready Every Evening Now (to prepare for the morning rush)
