Win a $500 Shopping Spree During

Kent Station’s “Moolah for Schoolah” Scholarship Fundraiser

Group Of Diverse International Students Celebrating Graduation

Kent, Washington, March 1, 2016– Throughout the month of March, Kent Station will host its annual college scholarship fundraiser for Green River College (GRC) students – Moolah for Schoolah. Kent Station began the program in 2007 to provide scholarships to Kent graduates attending GRC. Since then, Kent Station has provided 31 scholarships totaling over $41,000 in college funding to students who might not be able to afford college otherwise.

The promotion has some fun changes this year! Kent Station customers can participate in the college fundraiser by picking up a Moolah for Schoolah “passport” available at all participating Kent Station merchants. Customers will receive a sticker just for going into each participating business and will receive an additional sticker each time they spend money at the business during the month of March. For each sticker that is given out, Kent Station will donate $1 to the Kent Station–Green River College Scholarship Fund. The more stickers on the passports, the more scholarships Kent Station will provide. Customers can pick up a passport all month and then drop off their passport at any participating business by April 4th.

Yelena Arkhipchuk is one of the 2015 scholarship recipients. She said “I was very happy to learn that I was a recipient of the Moolah for Schoolah scholarship. Thank you for your generous financial support towards my higher education. By awarding me the scholarship I am able to concentrate on what is important for me: education. Your financial generosity has allowed me to be one step closer to my goal and has inspired me to help others by giving back to the community. Thank you very much.”

To help students like Yelena, Kent Station encourages the community to visit participating Moolah for Schoolah merchants during March. By collecting stickers on a passport, the community can help college dreams become a reality and are eligible to win Kent Station prizes. Each sticker will give Kent Station customers the opportunity to win one of 10 prizes, including the Grand Prize of a $500 shopping spree to spend at Kent Station, plus gift cards ranging from $25 to $100. Each sticker will be one entry meaning that the more stickers the better the chances are to win a prize. The prize winners will be selected at random on April 11, 2016.

Windermere at Kent Station donated to the promotion, helping to offset the costs and helping to make it possible to reach our goal of donating $5000.

“The new passport is going to make Moolah for Schoolah a fun promotion to participate in.” said Cynthia Boyd, Kent Station Marketing Manager. “Our scholarships allow local high school graduates to achieve their dreams of higher education and thus giving them more opportunities to be successful members of our business community. We are always proud of our partnership with Green River College and the Green River College Foundation.”

Arbinger Adventures at Kent Campus

My first trip to Kent Campus!

My first trip to Kent Campus!

What better reason to visit the Kent Campus, than to participate in an Arbinger Institute from our very own Mediation Center. Arbinger training is just one of the many professional development opportunities available through this great resource! I even downloaded the audiobook “Leadership & Self-Deception” to mentally prepare to be a part of this training.

I present Dr. Barry Bannister (our fearless leader).

Throughout the day (this is actually a multi-day workshop), I found myself taking notes as fast as I could write them down. I appreciated how Arbinger focuses on the way we interact with others and our role in helping those around us. It posed great self-reflective questions, such as:

  • How am I a problem for others?
  • How can I be more helpful to others?
  • How can I help things go right?
Being surrounded by other Green River employees made the event a blast.

The focus of the training is meant for workplace application and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in improving their professional life. However, the training applies to all personal interactions and I found myself utilizing the principles covered with my own family members as well. I would definitely suggest this workshop (and others) provided through the Mediation Center. For complete details on all of their offerings, simply contact Dr. Barry Bannister or visit www.greenriver.edu/mediation.

In case you have never been to the Kent Campus, you’re missing out! There are many, many reasons (besides Barry and the Mediation Center) to drop by. I can’t wait until the next professional development workshop!
